About ESP PLAY — Inspiring Play, Shaping Futures Since 2003

Founded in 2003, ESP PLAY began with a simple but powerful goal: to transform traditional school playgrounds into meaningful spaces for learning, development and wellbeing. What started as a small, purpose-driven initiative has grown into one of the UK’s leading providers of playground equipment, with our reach now extending internationally.

Responding to a Growing Concern

In the early 2000s, children across the UK were becoming increasingly sedentary, with screens steadily replacing time spent outdoors. This shift was beginning to take a real toll, affecting physical health, mental wellbeing, social skills and confidence. ESP PLAY’s founding team recognised the long-term risks and set out to find a solution by rethinking the role of the playground itself.

We imagined 21st-century playgrounds that included every child, not just the sporty or the outgoing. Traditional playgrounds were too often uninspiring, exclusive or short-lived. In response, ESP PLAY pioneered durable thermoplastic playground markings designed to support the PE curriculum, encourage inclusive play and develop fundamental movement skills. Backed by nationally accredited teacher training, our designs gave teachers the confidence to deliver outstanding PE and gave children the freedom to participate fully, turning everyday play into a powerful tool for physical literacy.

Growing into a Trusted UK Manufacturer

As demand for our work grew, schools began asking whether we also supplied traditional playground equipment. That question marked the beginning of a major new chapter. ESP PLAY expanded to become a UK manufacturer of innovative, inclusive playground equipment for children from age two through to adults, designing, manufacturing and installing complete play environments tailored to the needs of every client.

Today, ESP PLAY is a trusted name across education, the housebuilding industry, the leisure sector, town and parish councils, and local authorities throughout the UK and beyond. Our in-house team manages every stage of each project, from initial concepts and bespoke design through to manufacture, installation and aftercare, giving our clients complete confidence in both the process and the finished result.

A significant and growing part of our work today is delivered in partnership with the UK’s leading housing developers. We are proud to work alongside major names including Barratt Redrow, Bellway, Vistry, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey, supporting their placemaking commitments by designing and installing high-quality LEAPs, LAPs and bespoke play areas at the heart of their new developments. These play spaces help create thriving, family-friendly communities where neighbours can connect and children can grow.

Alongside our housebuilder partnerships, ESP PLAY proudly supplies town councils, parish councils, schools, multi-academy trusts and large organisations within the leisure sector. From bespoke village play areas and inclusive community schemes to large-scale visitor attraction playgrounds, our work touches communities of every size across the country.
