Project Snapshot
School: Starbank School
Location: Small Heath, Birmingham
Client / Trust: Star Academies Trust
Project Value: £20,000+
Completion: October 2025
The Brief
The school previously had a trim trail and rubber mulch installed around three sides of a grassed area. Due to the layout, children frequently cut across the grass as the most direct route back to the start of the trail. This resulted in mud being tracked back into the school building following break and lunchtime periods.
Our Solution
To infill the area created by the original design, addressing the identified issue while creating an additional all-weather play space for year-round use. The school also wished to tie the existing and new surfaces together through the use of similar materials.
What We Delivered
- Installation of an MOT stone sub-base to provide longevity and a high-quality foundation.
- Mahogany red resin-bound rubber mulch
The Outcome
A striking area of resin-bound rubber mulch that alleviates the issue of mud being brought into the school, while fitting perfectly with the Star Academy Trust’s colours and branding. Where playground space is at a premium, particularly during the winter months, rubber mulch provides an additional, all-weather area for play.
