Riverside Primary School, North Shields

Riverside Primary School offers every opportunity for children to learn in a stimulating, challenging, safe, and caring environment. They aspire for their students to learn and achieve as they grow while also ensuring that they become responsible, respectful, and honest citizens. 

The school aimed to improve a run-down courtyard area that was initially intended for planting but had become unused and difficult to maintain. The staff wanted to create a calming sensory space for children to use when they were feeling challenged. 

We added various features to the area, including surfacing pockets with a range of activities such as planters, musical instruments, a play hut, sensory panels, a sandpit, and a water table. 

Both the staff and children have expressed that the new space is amazing. The children are much calmer after spending time there, and they thoroughly enjoy their outdoor experiences in this area.
