New Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) Transforms Sports Provision at Handforth Grange Primary School, Stockport

ESP PLAY is delighted to showcase a fantastic new MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) recently designed and installed for Handforth Grange Primary School in Stockport. This impressive new sports facility has had a huge impact on the school’s playground, creating a high-quality, all-weather space where pupils can be active, develop new skills and enjoy sport throughout the year.

A True Multi-Sport Facility

The brand-new multisport surface has been specifically designed to cater for a wide variety of sporting activities, including football, basketball and netball. With clearly marked court lines and a hard-wearing surface designed for performance, the MUGA gives pupils the opportunity to play, train and compete across multiple disciplines — all within one versatile, professionally finished facility.

By bringing several sports together in one dedicated space, the new pitch maximises the use of the school grounds and ensures pupils benefit from a far broader and richer PE experience.

Supporting PE, Playtimes and Wider Participation

The benefits of the new MUGA reach well beyond timetabled PE lessons. As an all-weather sports pitch, it can be used reliably throughout the year, regardless of the British weather — meaning lessons, clubs and active play no longer need to be cancelled or compromised. This has a hugely positive impact on PE delivery, ensuring pupils stay active and engaged in physical education whatever the season.

At lunchtimes and breaks, the MUGA provides an exciting focal point in the playground, encouraging children to be more active, sociable and confident. It also opens up brilliant opportunities for after-school clubs, inter-school fixtures, sports tournaments and increased participation across the wider school community. Wider community use outside of school hours is also a real possibility, helping the school become a true hub of healthy, active living for the local area.

Smart Steel Sports Fencing

To complete the installation, ESP PLAY supplied and installed high-quality steel sports fencing around the perimeter of the MUGA. The new fencing not only ensures the safety and security of pupils during play, keeping balls contained within the playing area, but also gives the facility a smart, professional finish that the whole school can be proud of.

The combination of the new multisport surface and steel sports fencing has truly transformed the school playground, creating an exciting, vibrant space where children love to play, learn and stay active.
