Manor Road Primary School contacted ESP Play via the website enquiry form because they wanted to redevelop an area of their playground. At Manor Road they have a dedicated staff team and are very proud of all the children in the school. They work in partnership with parent’s, governors and the community to provide the very best education and care they can to ensure their children are safe, happy and their individual needs and interests are met. They aim to provide a rich and exciting curriculum so that their children not only attain high standards in basic subjects, but achieve well in many areas.

Location: Clayton-le-Woods, Chorley

The school had a very clear vision for the new area and wanted to redevelop the old compass garden into a new chill out zone for their KS2 children. The school understands that wellbeing is fundamental to a child’s health and happiness and so they asked us to create an area where the children can escape the busy playground and relax. The main focus was to create a quiet space with different zones of seating. They also wanted to include a river in the design with a bridge going over it. The initial budget for the project was £25,000, however, the school were keen to get the whole project completed over one phase and so they were able to extend it to £40,000.

The Project
Our sales consultant met the Headteacher of the school and the Chair of the PTFA to discuss their requirements. The school provided a wonderful image of what they had envisioned for the area and this helped the consultant bring their vision to life. A comprehensive site survey followed, where photo’s and measurements were obtained. Following the meeting, ESP Play created a design incorporating the school’s requirements. The school loved our Wild Wood range and asked us to include our crooked pine tree benches so we made sure to include this in the design, we also included an artificial grass mound, sunshine seating, large picnic tables, a large shelter with seating and planters, a wobbly bridge and a wigwam as well as both artificial grass and blue wetpour surfacing.

The Outcome
As a result of this installation, the children now have a beautiful new space where they can escape the hustle and bustle of the playground. The new space has provided a natural, calming and peaceful environment for them to use and chill out in all year round. Schools have an important role to play in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of their pupils and this school has gone one step further by enhancing the existing area and creating a stunning new space where they can press “pause”, gather their emotions and unwind.
