Peak School – Chinley, North Derbyshire

Peak School, located in Chinley, North Derbyshire, is a community special school that caters to students with diverse needs. They aimed to enhance the outdoor area with gym equipment and a nest swing.

As a member of the Esteem Multi-Academy Trust, it collaborates with other special schools to ensure a high-quality education for its students by pooling expertise and best practices.

Having already worked with Fountains Primary, another school within the Trust, Peak School had seen our installation and were impressed.

They reached out to discuss their newest initiative: a patch of uneven natural grass at the school’s front, cluttered with decaying wooden planters and obsolete equipment they wished to clear away. The school’s main goal was to level and resurface the area, while also incorporating new equipment. Given the popularity of the existing nest swing, they planned to install an additional one to reduce wait times. Furthermore, they decided to introduce gym equipment, selecting a rider, runner, and sitting and standing twirlers. All ideal for the children to burn off energy.

The school opted for wetpour surfacing as it was already installed in several other areas. They requested a 50/50 mix of blue and black, considering that some children walk barefoot during summer, and pure black surfaces become hot in direct sunlight.

Thanks to the team at ESP PLAY, the area has now been completely transformed, it is barely recognisable. Needless to say, the school were thrilled. So much so that they invited us back twice more to quote for two further projects which will hopefully be coming soon.
