Feniscowles Primary School

Robyn, the School Business Manager at Feniscowles Primary, called ESP Play in April 24, she had an area in the school that she desperately wanted surfacing. The school had been waiting 5 years to get this project done and now that they had some money they wanted to go ahead as soon as possible.
Location: Blackburn
Robyn had already received a quote from another company but the amount was far more than they could afford so she arranged to meet the area representative at ESP Play to discuss the project in person.
During the meeting, she explained that they wanted to create a quiet area for the children to sit and read, they had some free standing wooden huts in the area that they would move out for the installation and then back in once the work had been completed.
Initially, Robyn requested a pathway in wetpour, however, she was advised by the representative that wetpour can be slippery when wet or icy and that it is also one of the most expensive surfaces, therefore, she was presented with two further options to consider; resin bound gravel and block paving. She wanted the pathway to lead from one door to another door and an open corner. There was also a step under the first door that she also wanted to have surfaced as well, the remainder of the area was to be surfaced with artificial grass. There was also an existing concrete base that needed removing where an old pergola used to sit but all in all the project was very straight forward.
After receiving designs and quotations for the various options, Robyn decided to go with the representatives recommendation of the Resin Bound Gravel pathway. Wherever two artificial surfaces meet, we also include a block paving edge because this provides a better quality finish. It’s the little additions like this that set us apart from other companies within the play industry.
The work could be carried out during term time, it wouldn’t disrupt breaktimes due to where it was located within the school and Robyn had waited long enough to get the work done, she didn’t want to wait any longer for a holiday installation.
The school started out with a budget of 5-6k for the project and we managed to give them everything they wanted for under 5k! The order was placed at the beginning of June and by the end of the month it had been completed in only two days!
The once drab concrete area is now so much more inviting, it also feels calming and the school has successfully created a quiet area for the children that want to escape the hustle and bustle of the noisy playground.
Robyn was contacted for feedback following the completion of the project, she said “The new quad looks amazing, it has made such a difference to school. The whole project from start to finish has been brilliant working with you guys; from measuring up, to communication, to the lads who came and did the job, to the finial finish. We are so pleased with it. We posted on our school Facebook page with a big shout out to ESP. Thanks for all your help.”
The school are really happy with the work carried out, they love it and would definitely work with ESP Play again.
