The Brief
Set in the picturesque village of Eastcombe, Gloucestershire, this small village school serves just 50 children. The school has limited wrap-around tarmac playgrounds that are used flexibly throughout the day for breaktimes, PE lessons, and before and after-school provision. The school wanted to introduce climbing equipment while working within a specific budget but needed support to redesign the space effectively. The challenge was to maximise the available area without compromising its flexibility, ensuring the playground continued to meet the needs of all users.

Our Solution
An irregularly shaped, underused corner of one playground was identified as the ideal location for development. This area currently featured a poorly positioned wooden climbing wall, which currently allowed children to hide out of sight of adult supervision.

The solution was to design a bespoke climbing unit that maximised the available footprint while engaging multiple children within a limited space. As the playground is used by a wide range of ages, the equipment needed to be accessible, inclusive, and appropriate for all users.

• Free, independent post-installation inspection to confirm the safety and compliance of all bespoke equipment.

The Outcome

• A bespoke Spinney Tree Trail from the Wildwood range, carefully designed to complement the natural aesthetic of the surrounding area.
• Artificial grass surfacing that provides a durable, safe, and natural-looking finish, suitable for year-round use.
