This playground project was conceived through formal discussions with the trust board. From this, Bilsthorpe was identified as priority works forming part of a three-year development plan set out by the trusts asset team.
Following on from productive discussions, ESP PLAY was invited to bid for the works and to submit playground designs comprising of a full KS1 zonal uplift and extension to the existing play space. Supplemented by extensive consultation with EYFS and KS1 practitioners, priority requirements were identified and agreed, comprising of provision for physical development, sand and water play, enhancement of the existing shelter space and new surfacing across the site.
Upon site scoping, the playground presented clear evidence of poor drainage and issues with standing water. This was to be addressed by other contractors. As such, a clear understanding of their works programme, suitable base preparation and finished levels was crucial for a successful installation.
Project Outcome.
In conjunction with other contractors, the project was completed on budget and signed off in 3 weeks. Effective planning, scheduling and an open dialogue with all stakeholders was key to successful delivery of this scheme. Furthermore, teachers and school staff were heavily invested in the decision making, coupled with their clear vision for the space. The result of this has been the swift handing over of a play space the pupils can enjoy for years to come.
