The Brief
The existing rubber mulch surface was very worn, some of the rubber was shedding and the weed membrane was visible in areas. The surface had become a health and safety issue because the exposed membrane could cause the children to trip. The existing traverse wall was still in a good condition and so the school wanted it to remain.
The Project
To begin with, the installation team carefully removed the existing surface and membrane. Next, they the laid a new, high quality and heavy duty weed membrane. The brown rubber chippings were then mixed together with the resin and laid on top of the weed membrane. The surface is then ready for use after being left to cure for around 24-72 hours.
The Outcome
The area is now safe and compliant and the children can enjoy using the existing traverse wall again. Rubber mulch is an all-weather surface made using recycled rubber, not only is it a cost effective surfacing solution but it is also environmentally friendly because the material isn’t harvested in a damaging way. It has the natural look of bark without the rot or movement because the particles are bonded together with a special resin. It is a low maintenance, anti-slip, permeable surface that dry’s quickly and is available in several colour options.
When asked if she was happy with the final project, Lynn the School Office Manager said “Yes it looks amazing, we are very happy with the finished look. The staff that came to install were really good, they just came and got on with it. We would certainly consider you if we have any future projects and would recommend you”.
