Alec Reed Academy, London

Alec Reed Academy is a mixed all-through school and sixth form located in the Northolt area of the London Borough of Ealing, England. The school operates nursery, primary, secondary and sixth form departments for pupils aged 3 to 19. Their passion is for learning and want their students to be excited by their experience in the classroom and beyond, committed to achieving their very best and confident about their futures.

The Brief

The school had a blank space that originally had some climbing equipment in, which had to be removed as it was no longer fit for purpose and was at the end of it’s life. They area was surfaced with wetpour which had been repaired and was failing in places. The school were looking for a combination of a trim trail and small climbing frame to occupy a maximum number of students to encourage physical activity for 9–11-year-olds and make good of the surface.

The Proposal

The first design was created to include specific items that the school requested however we also offered something slightly different to allow a better balance of skills which is what the school wanted. This design was favoured by the children and staff and included one of our TangleWood units with an extension of some trail items. We also resurfaced the area with new wetpour to offer a high-quality finish.

The end result

A fresh new surfaced area with a bespoke climbing unit to offer the KS2 children different challenges. Both staff and children are “delighted” with the transformation.
