Kents Hill Infant Academy (South Essex Academy Trust), Essex

A new SEN unit for children with Autism has been installed at Kints Hill Infant Academy. We can design, manufacture and install bespoke products suited to all SEN needs. From light, colour, touch and sound experiences to physical movement and regulation activity-based equipment.

Donna the site manager contacted 3 companies as is best practice for schools. The existing space was a blank paved area. They wanted to create an area specifically for the children with autism. The requirements were: sensory elements, colour, canopy, some spinning equipment and a hide away space. Additionally, an existing vent protruded from the wall which they wanted to try to cover or hide.

Donna and her team were delighted with the plan we submitted. We were able to include a spinner and springer with the required safety surfacing. A coloured roof canopy which reflects light through creating a rainbow effect underneath. A short sensory tunnel is situated under the existing canopy complete with colour and texture panels as well as musical chimes, mirrors and a dry wipe panel. The vent was boxed in with a bespoke sensory cover. A raised den has been included in the far corner to allow for quiet time.. Additional features such as a water wall, mirror boards and mark making boards have also been installed in the area. Finally, PVC screening with a calming forest theme has been attached to the fencing for privacy.

The staff are really happy with the works and the service received from ESP PLAY throughout and would definitely look to work with us again in the future.
