Brenda the Headteacher responded to our free playground design email as she was looking to develop her main playground. The challenge she presented us with was a sloped playground and she wasn’t sure on how to develop this to make the best use of the space.
The existing area area featured a small climbing frame atop wetpour surfacing, which was to remain. The remainder of the space was tarmac and lacked additional equipment. Concerns had been raised about children running up and down the slope due to the absence of other activities. The goal was to enhance the space’s fun factor while maintaining safety.
After the free consultation, we got to work on the free playground design. Considering the slope of the area, we included a trim trail, playground markings for games and a roadway for physical activities. A storytelling chair with vibrant mushroom seats forms an enchanting storytime corner. At the slope’s base, we installed a stage with music panels and seating for young performers. A raised play hut offers a tranquil retreat for children seeking calm. Creative learners have mark-making panels at the slope’s summit. To conclude, planters were arranged along the slope’s edge to serve as a natural barrier.
The school were delighted with the free design that following a couple of amendments we were given the go ahead to install the new equipment. The school are extremely happy with the new playground. They can see the children play in a really purposeful way now.
